Trainees
What is Vertex Law?
Vertex was formed by some of the leading commercial lawyers in the region in September 2004 to provide a focussed and responsive service to corporates. As a measure of our success, in under 3 years we have achieved a joint first ranking in Chambers for corporate law in Kent & Sussex and have grown in size to around 40 people. We operate a happy, sociable and hard-working business.
Trainee recruitment
We recruit two trainee solicitors in October each year. Our first trainees start this October and we have appointed two further starters for 2008.
If you would like to apply for a training contract with us to start in 2009 you must complete our online application form .
Our closing date for applications is 31 August 2007.
Before you fill in the form we recommend you carry on reading to find out a little more about what we're looking for, what you can expect and how we go about making an offer.
Once you have completed and submitted the application form to us you will receive an acknowledgement of receipt and then hear from us by no later than 30 September 2007 confirming whether or not you have been selected for our assessment day.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for applicants who will share our passion for providing a quality commercial service and who have the drive and ambition to join a demanding and successful legal business. You must show us that you have the energy, common sense and communication skills to make your mark in the team. We are a friendly place to work and you need to be able to interact comfortably with your colleagues and clients at work and socially.

Our commitment to you
It is very important to us that you are able to fulfill your potential as a commercially focussed lawyer. We have invested in a structured development programme, backed up by the latest technology and a commitment to the right level of training for every person at Vertex.
You will experience four six month seats covering areas such as:
- Corporate
- Dispute Resolution
- Technology
- Property
You will be reviewed on a monthly basis by the relevant supervisors within each area to ensure a continuous two way flow of feedback on your progress. An 'end-of-seat' appraisal will be carried out with your supervisor and the trainee committee.
Exposure to 'real' work, clients and the chance to develop relationships with the region's other leading advisors will come at an early stage, as will responsibility. Staff reward is a key part of our ethos. Our pay levels are above market rates and additional benefits include private medical insurance, life assurance and pension.
We fund the Legal Practice Course on a discretionary basis, comprising 50% of fees paid and 50% interest-free loan.
Minimum qualifications
A 2:1 degree. If you do not have a 2:1 degree you should only apply if you have other strong qualities that you consider would be an asset to Vertex Law.
Trainee assessment day & interviews
We will invite a number of applicants to complete an online psychometric test prior to attending our trainee assessment day. On the day you will meet the other applicants and undertake a series of individual and group-based exercises or tasks. You will also undertake a written task and attend a formal interview. Successful applicants will then be invited for a second interview.
Offer
We will let you know within 10 days of the second interview whether or not we will be making you an offer.
