New Dispute Resolution lawyer for Vertex
This month Vertex Law welcomes Elizabeth Bentley to its Dispute Resolution Team.
Elizabeth qualified with a relatively small firm in the City, remaining there for several years as a qualified solicitor before seeking a position in which she would have a greater opportunity for team involvement.
The dispute resolvers at Vertex are charged with taking commercial clients through the various forms of the dispute resolution process, be that litigation or alternative forms. They are often called upon to support and assist colleagues in the Corporate, Property and Commercial Contracts teams, to ensure commercial risks are identified, evaluated and carefully managed.
Rebecca Tinham, who leads the Dispute Resolution Team, takes the view that it is important that Vertex work alongside their commercial clients, helping them to manage risk. She contrasts this with the now outdated perception of litigators as ‘mop up merchants’ that only become involved after the damage has been done.
Elizabeth Bentley said ‘I am pleased to have the opportunity to further my career with Vertex Law and am looking forward to working in such a progressive environment’.
Rebecca Tinham said ‘Solicitors have to become more service driven. Clients quite reasonably want to see value for money - a lawyer who is nowhere to be seen when the difficult decisions have to be taken yet later appears on the scene to ‘tut’ at the mess is unlikely to be a client’s first choice. We spent a long time searching for the right person to join the team, we needed someone who appreciates how we want to work with clients. I think that Elizabeth has all the qualities that will enable her to develop rewarding and productive relationships with both colleagues in other teams and the clients that we service.’
