Positive thinking in the property industry
With the dark clouds of recession looming, the Property Team at Vertex co-hosted an appropriately named “Positive Thinking” event aimed at the movers and shakers in the property and construction industry.
The co-hosts were Davis Langdon (Project and Cost Management Consultants), Barton Willmore (Architectural and Planning Consultants) and Peter Brett Associates (Engineering, Planning and Highway Consultants).
The event, unsurprisingly, proved extremely popular and was well attended by a mixture of private and public sector organisations involved in all aspects of the property and construction industry.
Paul Carter, the leader of Kent County Council, gave a keynote speech on where he saw the next 18 months as far as the industry was concerned and whilst emphasising the need to be realistic and accept that times are going to be hard, gave plenty of positive points including increase in public sector spending and the commitment by Kent County Council to source all of their requirements from the local market.
Robert Dodgson of Vertex introduced the event and provided comments from each co-hosting organisation as to why there were “reasons to be cheerful” including preparing for the forthcoming Planning Bill, strong activity in education, public sector and affordable housing, softening of local authorities section 106 requirements and willingness to renegotiate existing planning consents.
The feedback was extremely positive and there has been a demand for a similar event to be organised sometime during 2009.
Robert Dodgson commented “I was extremely pleased that the first event organised by the self named Kings Hill Construction Club proved to be so successful.
It is important for those in the Industry to know that here at Kings Hill, there are a group of professionals who have all the expertise required to deliver a top class service. We look forward to working with Davis Langdon, Barton Willmore and Peter Brett Associates throughout 2009 when we anticipate clients preparing to start significant projects during the early part of 2010”.
